Get ready for a delicious dive into Cretan culture!

Join us for a fun, hands-on cooking experience using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Wander through the charming veggie garden, meet the free-range chickens and sheep, explore the olive groves, wine cellar, and citrus orchard.

In small, friendly groups, you’ll learn to cook classic Cretan dishes (and we’ve got options for everyone – vegans, vegetarians, and those with dietary needs are all welcome!). You’ll make and taste:

  • Kalitsounia – a Cretan classic made in every lesson
  • Dakos – a crunchy, herby delight
  • Tzatziki – the famous creamy goodness
  • Cretan Salad – fresh and vibrant, every time
  • Main Dish – either Gemista or Boureki, depending on seasonal veggies
  • Pork with Tomato Sauce & Onions – a savory treat

And if the chickens have laid eggs that day, you’ll collect and cook them fresh!

We’ll also serve up local wine and sweet treats to pair with the meal. Special requests? Let us know – we’ll make sure there’s plenty to enjoy for all!

Step into the heart of Cretan history at Metochi Farm – a place where tradition, family, and the spirit of hospitality come together!

The farm’s story dates back to 1890 when a couple eloped from the “9 villages” of Kissamos to the untouched land of Metochi, near Gramvousa. Their son, Haralambos, went on a journey to America at just 16, working hard in Kansas City. After finding and returning a wallet full of money, he was rewarded with a promotion, and over 14 years, sent his savings back to Crete to build the family farmhouse in 1924.

The farm flourished, growing crops like wheat, sesame, and olives, while also raising cows, sheep, goats, and chickens for milk, cheese, and eggs. It quickly became self-sustaining, and locals gathered for trade, food, wine, and raki (local pomace brandy). It was a hub of Cretan hospitality!

Today, under the loving care of Eleni and Chrisoula, Haralambos’ great-grandchildren, the farm still runs much like it did a century ago. Visitors can experience the authentic flavors, scents, and Cretan warmth that made this place legendary. Join us and discover the spirit of Metochi Farm!
